The Richards Free Library has a Crealty 3D printer! We love to print patron’s 3D objects for fun, practical use, and for education, to help our patrons learn about technologies like this. Find or design you own 3D object, choose one of our samples, or talk to Mo about your idea!
Interested?
The Library’s 3D printer is available to make three-dimensional objects in PLA plastic using a design that the patron has provided as a digital computer file in the .stl format. It costs $1.00 per hour of printing, so we can buy new supplies as needed. Mo will use software to slice your file into the .gcode file needed by the machine, and run the 3D printer. If you would like to watch, please talk to Mo to arrange that!
We recommend looking for objects using https://www.thingiverse.com/ although there are other sites available. Or, design your own using free online Tinkercad https://www.tinkercad.com/ You will need to create an account to use Tinkercad.
When you are ready, visit Mo in person and fill in the form with her, or email Mo at mchurchill@newport.lib.nh.us with your .stl file or Thingiverse link. You can reach her by email or in the Youth Services department (option 3) at 603-863-3430 with questions.
More information:
Cost: Each hour of printing, or partial hour, will cost $1.00 (one dollar). For example, this means an hour and 15 minute project will cost $2.00 (two dollars). We will check in with you to confirm prices if we can, before printing. Patrons will be charged for the printing time of an acceptable print, including any rafts and supports required for successful printing, when they pick up their completed object.
Print-on-demand objects must fit inside a 18cm cube (about 7 inches). We print mostly small objects that cost $2-$4, but a large overnight print would cost significantly more.
