The New Hampshire Women’s Heritage Trail and the New Hampshire Women’s Foundation celebrated Women’s History Month by announcing the first twenty-seven inductees to the New Hampshire Women’s Heritage Trail. In 2008 the NH Commission on the Status of Women created the Women’s Heritage Trail with the mission to “give visible recognition to the historic women of New Hampshire and celebrate their significant contributions to the life and culture of the state since its founding.â€A call for nominations was sent throughout the state, and for the past seven years considerable research was conducted into the lives of those recommended for this honor. Newport’s Sarah J. Hale was nominated by the Richards Free Library, and selected for her literary work, editorship of Godey’s Lady’s Book, and her fight for higher education, better medical care and higher wages for women. A list of all women on the Heritage Trail can be found at http://nhwomensheritagetrail.org/.

Thank you!
The Library’s 2015 Winter Carnival parade float won 3rd place in the small float catagory! Congratulations and many thanks to all of the girls who joined us on the float on Saturday, with your costumes and cheerfulness. Thanks for telling stories and singing along, and making the Parade an absolute blast!
Special thanks to the Hagebusches for the use of the pick-up, and the Snow Queen costume! Thank you also to Cam Churchill for driving the float!
The First First Monday
The Friends of the Library have begun a new activity. Â They will gather on the first Monday of each Month from 9:00 – 11:00 while the library is closed to work on various projects. Â This month they took down the holiday decorations and then proceeded to make sure that books were in the correct order on the shelves. Projects will vary each month and there are always books to be dusted and arranged. Â If you would like to participate, join the Friends on the First Monday in February (2nd) at 9:00.
