Please don’t return your library books. Stay safe at home. All items are now due April 10, 2020. This date will be extended if needed. So take good care of those books, DVDs and audio disks and bring them back later.

Remember, even if you can’t check out books, you can still keep reading. The New York Times, E-books, audiobooks, and online magazines are all available with your library card. Discover resources on the Remote Services page on our website: www.newport.lib.nh.us. Staff are working from home and can still answer reference questions and remind you of your number if you can’t find your library card. Just email us at rfl@newport.lib.nh.us.

Social distancing is an important element in stopping the spread of COVID-19. To help mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, the Board of Trustees of the Richards Free Library has made the decision to close the library facility effective immediately. All events and activities are cancelled. Please keep your books until we open. We are a fine-free library so no fines will accrue.

A wealth of information can be found on the library website. We invite library card holders to take advantage of many features available online from Universal Class to Kanopy streaming movies and downloadable ebooks and audiobooks. Scribd is making their millions of eBooks, audiobooks and magazines FREE to anyone for 30 days, no credit card required. Just sign in at this link: scribd.com/readfree. There are many fantastic books for adults and children available without waiting.

Though the library is closed during this pandemic, there are still ways to access the library services and our collection:

WiFi is available 24 hours a day in our parking lot. To log in, look for the RFL Public network. There is no password.

Explore HeritageQuest online. ProQuest has made the online service HeritageQuest available for home use. Call the library for the user name and password to access HeritageQuest here. Please know that non-subscriber access will be removed at some point. 

Take a look at Kanopy. Kanopy is an on-demand film streaming service. Get free access to thousands of movies with your library card number.

Read the New York Times online.

Take an online class through Universal Class. Access over 500 online courses for free.

Downloadable ebooks, audiobooks and magazines are always available with your library card through the New Hampshire Downloadable books website.
