Kids Summer Reading Program!

June 18th 11:00am “Birds Are Dinosaurs,” Summer Kickoff. Are raptors related to velociraptors? Find out in this animal ambassador program with VINS and learn all about birds and their long-lost relatives! All ages.

June 22nd 1-4pm Summer Window Painting: Help paint dinosaurs and summer-inspired designs on the big picture windows! Kids 4+

June 29th 2pm Rock Painting Paint a rock to add to our Library Rock Snake, a pet rock to take home, or a Kindness Rock to plant somewhere in the community! Kids and teens!

June 24th 11am Family Story Time: Listen to books, sing along with songs, and get up and move during family story time every Wednesday at 11am. Kids 0-6

June 25th 1pm DIY Fossils Use clay or salt dough to make your own “fossils” with dinosaur footprints, leaves, or sea shells! Kids

July 1st 11:30 am Foam Shape Dinos craft: After storytime, make your own dinosaur out of foam shapes glued to card stock. This colorful craft is perfect for toddlers, preschoolers, or anyone who loves dinosaurs.

July 3rd Cupcake Walk: Celebrate the U.S.A’s 250th birthday with cupcakes at the library! Help bake cupcakes for this fundraiser to support the library food pantry and compete for fun prizes like Most Patriotic or Best Decorated by Kids, or just attend the cupcake party for $5 for 4 cupcakes. All ages!

July 6th 2pm Clay Petroglyphs: Make your own clay petroglyph pendant. Archeologists learn a lot about the past through artifacts like petroglyphs– what would they learn about you?

July 7th 2pm Plant A Seed: Learn about soil while you plant a bean seed with our special guest gardener Sandy

July 9th 2pm-4pm LEGO Dino Habitats and LEGO Volcanoes: Use the library’s LEGO to build a habitat for dinosaurs, or help make a LEGO volcano and watch it erupt! Kids and families

July 14th 11am Fairy Houses and Dino Gardens: Build a house for the fairies, or tiny garden for a tiny dinosaur in the library’s Hale Park garden. Supplies provided, but bring anything special you’d like to use!

 July 17th 1pm Needle Felt a Dinosaur: Learn basic needle felting skills while you make your own wooly dino friend! (Or use your imagination to create your own critter). Kids 6+ and teens.

July 21st 1pm Tie Dye: Bring something to tie dye under ther tent at our annual tie dye party! All ages.

July 22nd 3pm Map Making: So many of the best books include maps! Learn how to make your own literary map and build the world for your story!

July 23rd 3pm Break Apart Eggs: Become an archeologist as you excavate a dino egg to find out what’s hidden inside!

July 28th 3pm Frozen T-Shirt Challenge: How fast can you thaw out a frozen solid t-shirt, open it up, and put it on over your head, arms, and torso? Find out!

July 30th 4pmStuffed Animal Sleepover Drop-off: Drop off a plushie friend to stay overnight at the library, and make them a button name tag. Preregister to reserve your stuffy’s spot!

July 31st 11am Stuffed Animal Sleepover Pick Up Party: Pick up your stuffy after their fun overnight at the library and watch a slideshow of all their adventures!

August 3rd 2pm Metal Detecting Adventure: Come along on a metal-detecting adventure! Join your friends to help find the items and unearth the story!August 6th 1pm Ice Cream Finale: Celebrate a summer of reading and fun with yummy Sanctuary Dairy Farm ice cream, all your summer reading friends, and some silly games!
