Are you a high school student, at least 16 years old, with a passion for community service? We’re hiring a library page at the Richards Free Library. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience while supporting your local library.
Our Pages work 9-12 hours a week during the school year and 15-19 hours a week during the summer. Their main responsibility is to shelve books, but they also help with numerous projects around the library.
Applications are being accepted until the position is filled. Projected start date is July 28th.
MUST be available to work Saturday, August 23rd, for the Library Festival (our annual book sale)
School Year Required Hours:
Wednesday 5-8pm, Thursday 5-8pm, Friday 3-6pm, every other Saturday 10am-2pm.
Summer Required Hours:
Wednesday 3-8pm, Thursday 3-8pm, Friday 1-6pm, every other Saturday 10am-2pm.
Hourly Pay: $10.00

JOB DESCRIPTION
- Organize and shelve all library materials efficiently and accurately.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of library materials, shelves, and reading areas.
- Clean and tidy up kitchen areas by the end of each day.
- Assist with various tasks at the circulation desk including but not limited to:
- checking materials in and out.
- creating new patron accounts.
- answering patron questions
- making and answering phone calls.
- Manage and organize basement storage areas to optimize space and accessibility.
- Update public bulletin boards regularly.
- Bring items to upper floors and basement as needed.
- Assist Youth Services Librarian with summer reading program events.
- Create engaging book displays.
- Aid in tasks related to the care and well-being of our library cats.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Physical capability to fulfill job responsibilities, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to ask questions when confused about a task.
- Ability to handle situations with tact, professionalism, and courtesy.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, staff from other libraries, and the public.
- Some familiarity with/willingness to learn the Dewey Decimal System.
- Competence in using computers, printers, search engines, and navigating computer databases efficiently.
